I am a dad who recently adopted a three-year-old son Kwame. I was thrilled to be a father, but I also felt overwhelmed and unsure of myself. I had never parented before, and I didn’t know much about his birth culture.
I also worried about how Kwame would adjust to his new life in Ireland. Kwame didn’t have great English, and he had never lived outside of an orphanage. I wanted to make sure that Kwame felt loved and supported, but I didn’t know where to start.
One day, I saw a flyer for a parenting group, that looked really inclusive. I decided to check it out, and it was the best decision I ever made.
The parenting group was a lifesaver for me and Kwame. I met other parents who were facing the same challenges as I was. I was able to share my experiences and get advice from other parents. The parenting group also gave Kwame a chance to interact with other children from different cultures. Kwame made new friends, and his language improved so much.
During our time so far, we developed a close bond with the other parents and children in the group. I felt more confident as a parent, and Kwame knew that he was loved and supported by his new family and community.
