Sonas works directly with women and children; with dedicated/specialised teams providing support to both and has an organisational infrastructure to support this work. We provide a comprehensive range of services to victims of abuse – client needs shape our response.

Sonas provides client-centred, needs-led, trauma-informed frontline supports to victims of domestic abuse. Our practice of supporting child and adult victims of domestic abuse is based on a holistic needs assessment of which risk assessment is integral; our approach is rights-based, respectful of client experience and choices, shaped by client-defined goals with safety paramount.

Women and Children’s Emergency Refuge

Based in Dublin 15, operates 24/7 365 days a year, with referrals accepted from all over the country. Capacity 8 families.
Emergency helpline (1800 22 22 23) 24/7 365 days a year.

Safe Home Project for Women and Children experiencing domestic violence.

Safe and secure short-term crisis accommodation in the community for women and children, who have had to leave home due to domestic abuse. Capacity 20 families – Sonas developed an additional 13 units during COVID.

Transitional Supported Accommodation

Supported Housing for women and children (up to 18 months) who have been made homeless as a result of domestic abuse. Capacity 24 families.

Community Based Services – across Greater Dublin Region

Crisis Intervention Service for families living in the Community.

Dochas Women’s Prison In-Reach Programme
Sonas facilitates a module in the Pre-Release Programme for Dochas Women’s Prison.
Information and Advice Clinics for staff and general prison population.

Children’s Support Services

Half of the people Sonas supports are under the age of 18 – two out of three of those are under the age of 10. A dedicated support team who work in every site-based service provides Children’s Services in Sonas. The wellbeing, welfare and protection of a child or a young person is our priority across all services.

Court/Legal Services

Sonas has a professional staff that provides on average 150 court accompaniments annually and over 1,000 support hours relating to the legal process.
Sonas has a dedicated children’s support team working across Sonas accommodation-based services; this helps support children through safety planning, discussing their emotions etc. It also supports mothers if they have to go to court by ensuring children are looked after.
Sonas women’s support teams works across all services to support women around the legal process.

Gender Neutral

First ‘Gender Neutral’ unit of accommodation for male victims and LGBTQI community in conjunction with Mens Development Network and Men’s Aid.
