Southside Travellers Action Group

Starting from the individual needs of Travellers parents and young people we design develop and deliver programmes which are culturally appropriate which acknowledge and respect the experience of being a Traveller in today’s society.

We have a wide range of services including:

  • Our Children and Young People Program (CYPP) provides a safe space where Young People meet and communicate with one another while enjoying the activities and learning new skills.
  • Our Chill Out Zone on a Tuesday night in STAG centre in Sandyford provides a space for Traveller women in Dublin to come together to chat and relax, discuss issues, receive health information and support and participate in arts and cultural activities. This year the Traveller Womens Group plan to run workshops on healthy eating, relaxation, natural health and herbs, beauty tips, drugs and alcohol and mental health.
  • The aim of Southside Travellers Action Group’s Primary Health Care Programme is to improve the health and life expectancy of the Traveller community living in Dunlaoighre Rathdown. Travellers trained as primary health care workers provide health information directly to the community through home visits and support individual Travellers to access health services.  We also run health promotion activities and workshops on key health issues, including on asthma, diabetes, heart disease and blood pressure, mental health and fire safety.
