Sarah and Noah’s experience of Family Support

My beautiful boy Noah was born with Down syndrome, and I was initially overwhelmed by Noah’s diagnosis, but I was determined to give him the best possible life.

I faced many difficulties as a single mother of a child with a disability. I had to learn how to navigate the complex world of special education and early intervention services. One of the biggest challenges I faced was finding affordable and accessible childcare for Noah. I worked full-time, but I couldn’t find a daycare that would accept Noah. I had to rely on my family and friends for help, but this was not always possible.

I also struggled with my own mental health. I felt isolated and alone, and I often felt overwhelmed by the demands of motherhood. I started to experience anxiety and depression. One day, my friend told me about a family support service near us. I was hesitant at first, but I eventually decided to reach out for help.

The family support service provided me with a variety of support services, including counseling, additional supports for Noah, and support groups. My counselor helped me to develop coping mechanisms for stress and anxiety. She also learned helped support me advocate for Noah’s needs.

With the help of the family support service, my life improved dramatically. I was able to manage my stress and anxiety, and I felt more supported and connected. I was also able to provide Noah with the care and support he needed to thrive
